With the support
of member libraries, Winnefox Library System operates WALS, the Winnefox
Automated Library Services shared computer system. Housed at the Oshkosh
Public Library, this system hosts web sites for libraries as well
as the
Information & Referral Community Database
and operates the shared online
catalog,
circulation, and acquisitions. Currently, twenty-five Winnefox libraries
are using WALS for circulation and more are preparing for the circulation
system by barcoding their collections.
"Nearly 1 million items are available among Winnefox member
libraries."
Interlibrary Loan
Last year, over 111,500 requested items were successfully provided to
patrons by other Winnefox member libraries through the Interlibrary Loan
system. No library could afford all of the print and electronic resources
required by its patrons and with interlibrary loan, nearly 1 million items
are available among Winnefox member libraries.
Central Support
and Responsibility
WALS staff offers the latest in technology and technical assistance to
member libraries. From ordering personal computers to designing a layout
configuration, experienced staff is available to assist member libraries
with all of their hard- and software needs. WALS also purchases hardware
and supplies cooperatively to get the best possible prices.
