Memorandum:
From: Mark
Arend, Interim Assistant Director
Subject: Report of System activities
The following is an update of activities since our last meeting. I would be happy to provide further details at our meeting, or feel free to give me a call or send an email in advance.
Director Certification: You may remember that I reported several months ago that two of our libraries were not in compliance with state requirements for system membership because their directors had not completed the required classes to renew their certification. I am happy to report that Neshkoro director Cheryl Milbrandt has completed her class and that by the time of our meeting Oakfield director Dianne Bilitz will have completed her class.
Summer Reading
Program: Reports are coming in that our libraries are
having successful summer reading programs.
Some are reporting record numbers of participants. Special thanks to the Division for
Libraries, Technology, and Community Learning for providing passes for
Wisconsin State Parks, the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, and the
Milwaukee Public Museum.
Many libraries are
helping Smokey the Bear celebrate his 60th birthday this year with
special children’s programs including a birthday card contest. One lucky child in Winnefox Library System
will win a Smokey backpack with prizes and have his card sent on to Madison and
posted on the DNR web site.
Staff from Winnefox and
member libraries are busy putting the final touches on the planning for the Library
Day @ Galloway House program scheduled for the Galloway House and Village
in Fond du Lac for the afternoon of Saturday 7 August. Last year we had over 1,800 library users
attend the EAA program and we are hoping to match or exceed that total this
year.
WCTS Collection
Enhancement Grant: The effects of the WCTS Collection
Enhancement grants are starting to be seen in libraries in Marquette, Green
Lake, & Waushara Counties. As of
the end of June almost 100 items have been purchased and have hit the
shelves.
Member Library Director News: Since our last meeting two directors have left Winnefox member libraries. Campbellsport director Suellen Bladek, and Berlin director Karen Peterson have each left their respective libraries. John and I are assisting the library boards as they begin the search for new directors.
