Memorandum:
From: Mark Arend, Interim Assistant
Director
Subject: Report of the Assistant Director
Greetings. The following is a list of activities since our last meeting. I would be happy to provide further details at our upcoming meeting, or feel free to give me a call or send an email in advance.
County Planning:
As I reported at the last meeting the Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Marquette, and Waushara County LACs have been reexamining their respective long-range plans, evaluating their progress, and making plans for the next year. Each LAC will then be making a report to their County Board on their progress and on service highlights of the past year.
The Marquette County LAC will be making their presentation on the 22nd and their report card is contained in your packet. The Green Lake and Waushara librarians have scheduled theirs for August & October; Fond du Lac’s is not yet scheduled. Their reports are not quite completed yet.
The LACs are also beginning to plan their reimbursement requests to their respective committees of jurisdiction. We’ll be starting to meet with those committees in the next month or so.
Printing and Graphic Arts: It’s been a busy couple of months for Renee Miller, our graphic artist, and her staff. Every library runs at least one summer reading program and several of them run different programs for different age groups. This means lots of printing and this year the demand was exceptionally high. Many of our libraries are experiencing record participation in their programs this summer.
EAA End of Summer Program: We don’t yet know how many persons will be attending but by all indications this will be a popular activity.
CD/DVD Refinisher: With the growth in collections of CDs and DVDs librarians have discovered that these discs are not as durable as anticipated. Scratches and dirt render them difficult or impossible to play on some players. WCTS will be purchasing a refinisher to buff out scratches on the discs. Libraries will be able to send discs in for repair. We hope to have this service available in the next month or so.
