Outlook Tip O' The Month

When using Outlook Web Access, if your Inbox or other folder has more than 20 messages it's difficult to know how to read the rest of the messages in a folder. To see the next screenfull of messages click the right arrow:

Once there, you can move to the previous screen of messages by clicking the left arrow:

When working from a Web page that's chock full o' good links (gee, I don't know, maybe like The Ides) do you sometimes find it too easy to follow link after link, wander astray, and forget that you wanted to follow the other great links on the original page? Here's a trick that will allow you to keep the first page open in Internet Explorer, and open a link in an additional session of IE.

  1. Place your mouse pointer over any hyperlink;
  2. Click the RIGHT mouse button;
  3. A small popup menu will open up;
  4. Click the LEFT mouse button on "Open in New Window".

  5. A second session of Internet Explorer will open up, and
  6. You can see on your Windows Taskbar that there are now two IE browser sessions open.
  7. To go back to that first page, just click on the first IE icon on your Taskbar.

Now that you've got two sessions of your browser open, how can you tell which web page is on which? Just place your mouse pointer over one of the icons, and a small white box will pop up like this:

Windows/Office Tip O' The Month

A handy timesaver in Windows is the ability to open any recently used document. This includes word processing documents, spreadsheets, and web sites. To make use of this shortcut...

  1. Click the Windows Start button.
  2. Place your mouse pointer over Documents.
  3. A list of documents you've accessed recently will open up, so just click on the one you'd like to re-open. Windows will automagically start the software/application associated with the document to access the document, if it isn't already open.

After a while the Documents menu can become quite long -- you might want to delete items that are no longer of interest. To clear it, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click your mouse on any open area of the Windows Taskbar.
  2. Click on Properties.
  3. Click on the Start Menu Programs tab.
  4. Click the Clear button
  5. to remove the contents of the Documents Menu.
  6. Click the OK button.

The Wisconsin No Call List is the place you and your patrons can sign up as someone who does not wish to receive telemarketing phone calls. It's free and available for residential telephone customers in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection notes that adding your phone number to the list will help reduce (but not eliminate) telemarketing calls to your home. Telemarketers doing business in Wisconsin will not be allowed to call numbers on the list, though there are exemptions for charitable organizations and groups seeking donations, including political parties.

The Invisible Library is a collection of books that only appear in other books. "Within the library's catalog you will find imaginary books, pseudobiblia, artifictions, fabled tomes, libris phantastica, and all manner of books unwritten, unread, unpublished, and unfound."

Recipe O' The Month

Here's a good use for all those tomatoes that are ripening in gardens now: Pasta with Tomato Gravy.
(And if you haven't already heard, last month's recipe for Chocolate Zucchini Bread needs 3 cups of flour. Sorry about the omission!)

And if you've got ingredients on hand but are at a loss for what to cook, try "Googlecooking"!
