E-Mail Tip O' The Month

Have you logged into your e-mail through Outlook Web Access and wondered how to move a message from the Inbox into a different folder? You're not the only one! The trick is knowing that you can't do it from a list of messages -- you can do it only from within the message itself. Just follow these step-by-step instructions...

  1. Open the message you want to move.

  2. Within the message window click the 5th icon from the left. When you move your mouse cursor over the icon you should see a tiny window appear that says "Move/Copy".
  3. screenshot of Outlook Web Access

  4. The Outlook "Move Copy" window should open up -- here's where you select a destination folder for the message. If you're looking for a subfolder, just keep clicking until you "drill down" to the correct folder.

  5. When you find the folder you want, click the "Move" button or "Copy" button.

  6. The "Move Copy" window will close, and the message will have moved to the folder.

Internet Tip O' The Month

If there's a Web page that you visit often you can add a button to your web browser's Personal Toolbar/Links Toolbar, to make it easier to re-visit your most used Web sites. Both Netscape and Internet Explorer come with pre-set buttons on the Personal Toolbar/Links Toolbar-- you can add yours to these & keep the pre-set buttons, or replace them with buttons that are more useful to you. In past issues of the Ides I've described how to customize the Netscape Personal Toolbar, and today I'll tell you how you can do the same in the Internet Explorer web browser

  1. You may not realize that IE even has a customizable Links Toolbar because it may be nearly invisible if it's "docked" to the far side of the Address Toolbar.

And if there's no trace of a Links Toolbar click View on the Menu Bar, point your mouse at Toolbars, and then click Links.

  2. To move the Personal Toolbar down so it's visible and underneath the Address Toolbar, use your mouse to click on the word "Links", then hold down the mouse button as you drag the button downward on the browser window. As soon as you see the Personal Toolbar expand, let go of the mouse button. Now you've successfully re-docked the Links Toolbar!

  3. To make room for your own buttons you may first want to delete some of the pre-loaded buttons. (Ones like "Product News" and "Today's Links" are good candidates for removal.) To remove a shortcut button from the Links Toolbar right-click on the shortcut button, and then click Delete. When a dialog box opens to ask you "Are you sure you want to send this to the Recycle Bin?" click the Yes button.

  4. To add a new shortcut button to the Links Toolbar use your mouse to click & drag the web page's icon from the Address Bar directly onto the Links Toolbar.

Or you can even click & drag any hyperlink from a web page onto the Links Toolbar.

  5. If you want to rearrange the order of the shortcut buttons just click & drag a shortcut button to a new place on the Links Toolbar.

Windows/Office Tip O' The Month

The Taskbar at the bottom of your Windows 95/NT desktop screen shows you what programs are currently running on your PC.

Did you know you could change the location or size of the Taskbar, and even hide it? Here's how:

  1. To move the Taskbar, click on a Taskbar blank area, keep your finger on the mouse button, drag it to another side of your screen, and let go of the mouse button.
  2. To re-size it, place your mouse pointer along the Taskbar border until you see a double-headed arrow, and drag the border outward or inward.
  3. To hide it, right-click on a Taskbar blank area, choose Properties, and when the Taskbar Properties box pops up click Auto hide, then the OK button. Now the Taskbar won't appear until you move your mouse cursor over its "hidden" location.

Quote O' The Month

"Librarians see themselves as the guardians of the First Amendment. You got a thousand Mother Joneses at the barricades! I love the librarians, and I am grateful for them!"
   -- Michael Moore

(According to Salon.com, "When Michael Moore's publisher insisted he rewrite his new book to be less critical of President Bush, it took an outraged librarian to get it back in the stores." Read all about it at Marian And Me.)
