E-MAIL TIP
In the version of Pine that we use here at Winnefox, any folder of messages you open is arranged in chronological order. If you'd like to see the messages arranged differently, you can press the $ key (SortIndex) for a set of options.
Pine will ask you to "Choose type of sort, or Reverse current sort :" and you may opt to sort
the folder by:
Sorting by subject comes in handy if you've been on vacation and are catching up on e-mail: you can read the messages by the discussion "thread." This sort is also handy if you're subscribed to an email discussion group that's quite active.
When it's time to clean out some of your e-mail folders, sorting by size may help you prioritize the deletion of messages, based on the amount of disk space they take up on our server.
Changing the sort order isn't permanent, but only affects the current Pine session. It's possible to re-set the default sort order for Pine folders, but it's a global change that you
should contact me about if you're interested.
If you use a different e-mail reader, many software packages offer sorting options on the menu bar under View | Sort by | . If you use Netscape's e-mailer, more help can be found at Netscape
Navigator Handbook: Mail, News, and Bookmarks, and
Introduction to Communicator: About the message list window.
Have you been sitting and surfing 'til it hurts? Do your wrists, back, and eyes tell you you've been online too long? If so, you need to practice some "safe surfing" by checking out the Oklahoma State University Department of Environmental Health and Safety

Here's where you can find out how to avoid Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, how to reduce eyestrain, the right kind of exercises to do at your workstation, and the "ergonomics" of arranging equipment to suit you and the work that you do.

The categories offered at their Reference Desk are Acronyms, Biographies, Business Info, Calculators, Calendars, Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, Government, Maps, Phone Books, Quotations, and Statistics.
Their links to calculators also include such "fun" ones as a Bowling Score Calculator, a calculator to find out what what ski size you need, and a Quarterback Passer Rating Calculator.
Have you ever wondered how many library cats live in Wisconsin? According to Iron Frog's
Library Cats Map, there are 263 known library cats in the United States: 162 former residents, and 101 current residents (including 8 permanent residents, 6 sculptures, one stuffed Siberian tiger, and one virtual library cat).
There's a click-able map of the U.S. you can use to find out all about Maggie the Cat, Dui,
and 404 The IPL Reference Cat. You can even take a look at some of the library cats in their natural settings (draped over card catalogs, napping in in-boxes, and being a bookend) and find the famous Baker & Taylor cats.
