Winnefox Electronic Resources, now available through your library's web site, helps to provide residents new reliable resources from the convenience of the nearest computer — paid for by state system aids through Winnefox. Database resources include:

  • BadgerCat — Find the materials you need in nearly 500 Wisconsin libraries.
  • With a total annual subscription price of more than $40,000 for these electronic resources, very few libraries could afford to pay this on their own.
  • Biography Collection Complete — Offers a comprehensive collection of full-text biographies supporting history, science, the arts, music, literature, multicultural studies, gender studies, business, government and politics, sports, entertainment and many other areas. Features more than 177,000 full-text biographies from many different sources.
  • Digital Audio Books from Overdrive — Choose from nearly 4000 audio books, over 300 videos and over 175 music selections to download to your PC or Mac and listen to them on your computer, transfer them to a compatible digital audio player, PDA, or other portable device, or burn them to a CD. Available anytime day or night!
  • HeritageQuest Online — Find ancestors and relatives in the complete set of US Federal Census Records from 1790-1930 and find information on people and places described in over 25,000 family and local histories.
  • NetLibrary — Handy for homework, after-hours reference work. Most helpful if an account is established so the user can create a bookshelf, bookmarks & notes.
  • Points of View Reference Center — Provides students with a series of essays that present multiple sides of a current issue. The database provides 200 topics, each with an overview (objective background/description), point (argument) and counterpoint (opposing argument). Topics covered include: affirmative action, cloning, DNA profiling, HIV/AIDS status disclosure, immigration, Iraq, Israel & the Palestinians, Katrina and FEMA response, nuclear proliferation, separation of church and state, standardized testing, stem cell research, tax cuts, voting machines, and many more.
  • Small Engine Repair Reference Center — The definitive online tool for small engine repair assistance, including: ATVs, commercial mowers, farm tractors, generators, motorcycles, marine (boats), outdoor power equipment, personal watercraft, snowblowers, snowmobiles, tillers and other small engines. This comprehensive resource contains 400 reference books in full text with original photos and illustrations that guide the user through every job.
  • WorldCat — Catalog of materials owned by more than 9,000 worldwide member libraries.

With a total annual subscription price of more than $40,000 for these electronic resources, very few libraries could afford to offer these resources. Winnefox purchases such items on behalf of member libraries at a tremendous cost savings to the libraries.

Electronic Services staff provides member libraries extensive support in the following areas:

  • Purchasing electronic services and providing training to member library staff in their use.
  • Web site design and training for member libraries that wish to maintain their own web sites.
  • Developing and maintaining the System's Extranet.
  • Developing local custom electronic resources for Winnefox member libraries.

Also available through your library's web site is BadgerLink, a gateway to more than 6000 magazines, journals, and newspapers. Included in BadgerLink are:

  • Academic Search Premier — Multi-disciplinary database provides full text for more than 4,500 journals, including full text for more than 3,700 peer-reviewed titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,000 titles.
  • Alt HealthWatch — Focuses on the many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated approaches to health care and wellness. It offers libraries full text articles for more than 180 international, and often peer-reviewed journals and reports. In addition, there are hundreds of pamphlets, booklets, special reports, original research and book excerpts. Alt HealthWatch provides in-depth coverage across the full spectrum of subject areas covered by complementary and alternative medicine. This database features indexing and abstracts going back as far as 1984, and full text going back as far as 1990.
  • Auto Repair Reference Center — Auto repair information for cars and trucks beginning in 1954. Includes wiring diagrams.
  • Book Collection: Nonfiction Elementary School Edition — Rich research database for school and public libraries. It contains informative abstracts and searchable full text for 1,290 popular nonfiction books. The database includes high interest titles on animals, weather, holidays, Native Americans, United States, Canada, biographies, civics and more.
  • Book Collection: Nonfiction High School Edition — Rich research database for school and public libraries. It contains informative abstracts and searchable full text for 2,448 popular nonfiction books. The database includes high interest titles on careers, health, ethnicity, disabilities, technology, biographies, music, science, history, civics and more.
  • Book Collection: Nonfiction Middle School Edition — Rich research database for school and public libraries. It contains informative abstracts and searchable full text for 3,089 popular nonfiction books. The database includes high interest titles on careers, health, ethnicity, disabilities, technology, biographies, history, science, women, civics and more.
  • Britannica Online: Elementary School — Features easy-to-read encyclopedia articles and age-appropriate reference and learning materials ideal for children at the preschool and elementary school level. Thousands of shorter articles cover subjects for school and fun, from nations of the world to animals and sports.
  • Britannica Online: High School — Encyclopedias and related materials (dictionaries, thesauri, illustrations, maps, biographies) for high school students. Also includes educational activities, exercises, and study guides.
  • Britannica Online: Learning Zone — Engaging online tool for early-childhood learning, covering letters, words, numbers, time, sound, geography and more. This activity-centered learning environment - created for Pre-Kindergarten through 2nd grade - supports classroom curriculum and helps students build technology skills.
  • Britannica Online: Middle School — Search level-appropriate reference articles, journals and magazines, the web's best sites, multimedia, and curriculum content for middle school level students.
  • Business Source Premier — The industry's most used business research database, providing full text for more than 2,300 journals, including full text for more than 1,100 peer-reviewed titles. This database provides full text back to 1886, and searchable cited references back to 1998. Business Source Premier is superior to the competition in full text coverage in all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance and economics.

  • Consumer Health Complete — Provides content covering all areas of health and wellness from mainstream medicine to the many perspectives of complementary, holistic, and integrated medicine. This full text database covers topics such as aging, cancer, diabetes, drugs and alcohol, fitness, nutrition and dietetics, men’s and women's health, and children's health.
  • Consumer Reports — The trusted source for ratings and recommendations of brand-name consumer products and services since 1936. Search back issues from January 1991 to the present.
  • Consumer Reports Buying Guide — A product-test and consumer advisory publication. Publishes results of tests on products ranging from major purchases such as automobiles and appliances to everyday items such as food and cleaning products. Search back issues from January 1999 to the present.
  • Education Research Complete — The definitive online resource for education research. Topics covered include all levels of education from early childhood to higher education, and all educational specialties, such as multilingual education, health education, and testing. Education Research Complete provides indexing and abstracts for more than 1,870 journals, as well as full text for more than 1,060 journals, and includes full text for more than 133 books and monographs, and for numerous education-related conference papers.
  • Educational Administration Abstracts — Includes bibliographic records covering areas related to educational administration, including educational leadership, educational management, educational research, and other areas of key relevance to the discipline. The index contains 60,000 records, which are carefully selected from the most important sources within the discipline.
  • ERIC — The Education Resource Information Center contains more than 1,282,000 records and links to more than 314,000 full-text documents.
  • FDA Consumer — Presents articles dealing with consumer interests and education. Search back issues from June 1990 to the present.
  • Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia — Over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas.
  • GreenFILE — Well-researched information covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. Its collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles includes content on global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more. The database provides indexing and abstracts for more than 384,000 records, as well as Open Access full text for more than 4,700 records.
  • Health Source: Consumer Edition — The richest collection of consumer health information available to libraries worldwide, providing information on many health topics including the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine and general health. Provides access to nearly 80 full text consumer health magazines.
  • Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition — Provides nearly 550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition also features the Lexi-PAL Drug Guide, which covers 1,300 generic drug patient education sheets with more than 4,700 brand names.
  • History Reference Center — Offers full text from more than 2,500 reference books, encyclopedias and non-fiction books, cover to cover full text for nearly 170 leading history periodicals, more than 112,000 historical documents, 113,000 biographies of historical figures, more than 112,000 historical photos and maps, and more than 80 hours of historical video.
  • Humanities International Complete — Provides full text of hundreds of journals, books and other published sources from around the world. Produced by Whitston Publishing (an imprint of EBSCO Publishing), this database includes all data from Humanities International Index (more than 2,100 journals and 2.47 million records) plus unique full text content, much of which is not found in other databases. The database includes full text for more than 890 journals.
  • Kids Search — Designed especially for youth in grades K-5, Kids Search makes it easy for students to search by keyword or by topic to find the most useful search results.
  • Lexi-PALS Drug Guide — Database of Patient Advisory Leaflets from Lexi-Comp that provides vital education on medications for patients. The approach for each pamphlet is to present each medication in an easy to follow and understand question-and-answer format. The database consists of over 1,450 medication and natural product leaflets, with an additional 600 Spanish language leaflets representing the most subscribed and commonly used medications.
  • Literary Reference Center — Comprehensive literary reference database, which provides users with a broad spectrum of reference information from antiquity to the present day, combining information from over 1,000 books and monographs, major literary encyclopedias and reference works, hundreds of literary journals, and unique sources not available anywhere else. Also contains detailed information on the most studied authors and their works and is an essential resource for public, academic and high school libraries.
  • LitFinder — Find poems, short stories, essays, speeches and plays by searching nearly a million full-text documents, literary excerpts and citations.
  • MAS Ultra; School Edition — Designed specifically for high school libraries, this database contains full text for more than 500 popular, high school magazines. MAS Ultra - School Edition also provides more than 360 full text reference books, 84,774 biographies, 105,786 primary source documents, and an Image Collection of 440,207 photos, maps & flags, color PDFs and expanded full text backfiles (back to 1975) for key magazines.
  • MasterFILE Premier — Designed specifically for public libraries, this multidisciplinary database provides full text for nearly 1,750 general reference publications with full text information dating as far back as 1975. Covering virtually every subject area of general interest, MasterFILE Premier also contains full text for nearly 500 reference books and 164,424 primary source documents, as well as an Image Collection of 440,207 photos, maps & flags.
  • MEDLINE — Provides authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, and much more. Created by the National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE uses meSH (Medical Subject Headings) indexing with tree, tree hierarchy, subheadings and explosion capabilities to search citations from over 4,800 current biomedical journals.
  • Middle Search Plus — Provides full text for more than 140 popular middle school magazines. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Full text is also available for thousands of biographies and historical essays. Middle Search Plus also contains 84,774 biographies, 105,786 primary source documents, and an Image Collection of 440,207 photos, maps and flags.
  • Military & Government Collection — Designed to offer current news pertaining to all branches of the military and government, this database offers a thorough collection of periodicals, academic journals and other content pertinent to the increasing needs of those sites. Provides cover-to-cover full text for nearly 300 journals and periodicals and indexing and abstracts for nearly 400 titles.
  • Newspaper Source Plus — Includes 1,570 full-text newspapers, providing more than 27 million full-text articles. In addition, the database features more than 583,100 television and radio news transcripts, videos and podcasts.
  • NewspaperARCHIVE — Search over 14.4 million newspaper pages dating back as far as the 1700s for over 400 cities and towns to research genealogy, history, culture, or any newsworthy event.
  • Novelist — Assists fiction readers in finding new authors and titles (If you like... you'll like...). Browse theme-oriented book lists, awards lists and fiction-related web sites.
  • NoveList K-8 — Fiction database designed with a bright, appealing layout, designed especially for elementary and middle schools. The database contains enhanced subject access for over 60,000 fiction titles aimed at the K-8 population. Full-text reviews from sources like School Library Journal and Booklist are available for many titles.
  • Primary Search — Provides full text for nearly 70 popular magazines for elementary school research. All full text articles included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles), and full text information dates as far back as 1990.
  • Professional Development Collection — Designed for professional educators, this database provides a highly specialized collection of nearly 520 high quality education journals, including more than 350 peer-reviewed titles. Also contains more than 200 educational reports and is the most comprehensive collection of full text education journals in the world.
  • Regional Business News — Comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications, incorporating coverage of more than 80 regional business publications covering all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States.
  • Science Reference Center — Comprehensive research database that provides easy access to a multitude of full text science-oriented content. This database contains full text for nearly 640 science encyclopedias, reference books, and periodicals. Topics covered include: biology, chemistry, earth and space science, environmental science, health and medicine, history of science, life science, physics, science and society, science as inquiry, scientists, technology and wildlife.
  • Searchasaurus — For elementary or middle schools grade children. It’s an animated interface with a dinosaur theme that encourages young researchers to enhance and develop basic search methodologies. Contains an encyclopedia of animals, a general encyclopedia, a dictionary and lots of pictures! Offers reading level indicators making it easy to read and research materials written for the readers level.
  • Songbook Database — Check out songs related to composers and writers with Wisconsin roots. Boasts more than 48,500 references to songs contained within 1,945 books. Continues to grow on a monthly basis.
  • Student Research Center — Designed especially for youth in grades 6-12, Student Research Center makes it easy for students to search by keyword or by topic to find the most useful search results.
  • TeachingBooks - Easy access to author & illustrator resources in one place; includes original, in-studio movies of authors and illustrators, 1000s of book guides with activities for library and classroom, and hundreds of audio excerpts of book readings for grades PreK-12.
