Winnefox Electronic Resources, now available through your library's web site, helps to provide residents new reliable resources from the convenience of the nearest computer — paid for by state system aids through Winnefox. Database resources include:

  • Auto Repair Reference Center — for cars and trucks beginning in 1954; includes wiring diagrams
  • Very few libraries could afford to pay on their own for access to these databases.
    Business Source — full text access to publications covering accounting, banking, computer science, construction, economics, finance, insurance, and taxes
  • Consumer Health Complete — all areas of health & wellness from mainstream medicine to complementary, holistic, and integrated medicine; covers topics such as aging, cancer, diabetes, addictions, fitness, nutrition, and children's health
  • Digital Audio Books from Overdrive — choose from over 2300 audio books, 160 videos and nearly 100 music selections to download to your PC and listen to them on your computer, transfer them to a compatible digital audio player, PDA, or other portable device, or burn them to a CD
  • E-books — NetLibrary electronic versions of printed books you can browse for quick research & reference or check out and read at your leisure
  • Encyclopedia Americana — in-depth information and news archives for students in middle school on up
  • Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia — quick reference with rich media and news for middle and high school students, includes videos, animations, dynamic maps and sound clips
  • Grolier Online Kids — easy-to-use search interface to use Encyclopedia Americana, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, and New Book of Knowledge
  • New Book of Knowledge — reference and current events for grades 3 on up
  • Small Engine Repair Reference Center — includes ATVs, commercial mowers, farm tractors, generators, motorcycles, boats, outdoor power equipment, personal watercraft, snowblowers, snowmobiles, tillers, and other small engines
  • Thomas Register — a directory of over 173,000 US and Canadian manufacturers, including over 8000 company catalogs
  • WorldCat — a catalog of materials owned by more than 9,000 libraries worldwide

With a total annual subscription price of more than $40,000 for these electronic resources, very few libraries could afford to offer these resources. Winnefox purchases such items on behalf of member libraries at a tremendous cost savings to the libraries.

Electronic Services staff provides member libraries extensive support in the following areas:

  • Purchasing electronic services and providing training to member library staff in their use.
  • Web site design and training for member libraries that wish to maintain their own web sites.
  • Developing and maintaining the System's Extranet.
  • Developing local custom electronic resources for Winnefox member libraries.

Also available through your library's web site is BadgerLink, a gateway to more than 6000 magazines, journals, and newspapers. Included in BadgerLink are:

  • Academic Search Premier — full text articles from over 1800 scholarly journals, covering virtually every area of academic study
  • African American Biographical Database — the largest electronic collection of biographical information on African Americans spanning 1790-1950
  • Animals — in-depth information describing the nature and habitat of familiar animals
  • Biomedical Reference Collection — designed for doctors, research scientist, students, and clinical specialists, this database provides full text articles from over 100 journals
  • Business Source Premier — full text articles from more than 2,300 scholarly business journals
  • Clinical Pharmacology — up-to-date, concise and clinically-relevant drug monographs for all U.S. prescription drugs, hard-to-find herbal and nutritional supplements, over-the-counter products and new and investigational drugs
  • Compartimientos/Diarios en Texto Completo — BadgerLink databases in Spanish
  • Consumer Reports Buying Guide — publishes results of tests on products ranging from major purchases such as automobiles and appliances to everyday items such as food and cleaning products
  • Corporate ResourceNet — full text articles from nearly 1,350 general and trade publications dating as far back as 1985
  • ERIC — the Educational Resource Information Center contains more than a million records of journal articles, research reports, curriculum and teaching guides, conference papers, and books
  • FDA Consumer — articles on consumer interests and education
  • Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia — over 25,000 encyclopedic entries covering a variety of subject areas
  • Health Source: Consumer Edition — info on health topics including the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, and sports medicine
  • Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition — over 600 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines
  • Kids Search — designed especially for grades K-5; makes it easy for students to search by keyword or by topic
  • Lit Finder — find poems, short stories, essays, speeches and plays by searching nearly a million full-text documents, literary excerpts and citations
  • MAS Ultra School Edition — designed specifically for high school students, this database provides full text for nearly 550 popular general interest and current events publications, more than 500 full text pamphlets, 250 full text reference books, 84,000 biographies and an image collection of 107,000 photos, maps and flags
  • Masterfile Premier — full text articles from over 1900 magazines & reference books
  • McClatchy-Tribune Collection — 90-day archive of nearly 300 newspapers from the McClatchy-Tribune information services; updated daily
  • MedLine— authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and pre-clinical sciences
  • Middle Search Plus — full text articles from more than 150 popular magazines for middle and junior high school research
  • Military & Government Collection — current news pertaining to all branches of the military; cover-to-cover full text for more than 350 journals and periodicals and 250 pamphlets
  • Newspaper Archive Elite — research genealogy, history, culture, and any newsworthy event in hundreds of newspapers with articles dating back as far as the 1700's. The collection provides a searchable archival file of important newspapers from the U.S., Canada and the U.K.
  • Newspaper Source — selected full text for 250 U.S. and international newspapers, and full text TV & radio news transcripts
  • Nursing and Allied Health Collection — designed for nursing & health professionals, students, educators, and researchers, this database provides full text for nearly 100 journals nursing, biomedicine, health sciences, and consumer health
  • Primary Search — full text articles from more than 60 popular magazines for elementary school research
  • Professional Development Collection — designed for professional educators, this database provides a highly specialized collection of more than 750 full text journals, and indexing & abstracts for more than 900 journals
  • Proquest Newspapers — indexes over 550 newspapers, including major newspapers as well as Wisconsin papers Corporate Report Wisconsin, Madison Capital Times, and Wisconsin State Journal
  • Regional Business News — full text of articles from regional business publications
  • Searchasaurus — for elementary or middle school-grade children
  • Songbook Database — more than 48,500 references to songs contained within 1,945 books
  • Student Research Center — designed especially for youth in grades 6-12.
  • TeachingBooks — access to author & illustrator resources in one place; includes original, in-studio movies of authors and illustrators, thousands of book guides with activities for library and classroom, and hundreds of audio excerpts of book readings for grades PreK-12.
  • Wisconsin Newsstand — a subset of Proquest Newspapers focusing on 12 state daily newspapers
